Student Employee – Cafeteria Operations (Smoothie Station)
Campus Dining Services | SchoolYear 1987
When the school year began, I transferred from housekeeping to the campus cafeteria, where my primary responsibility was operating the smoothie station. The station offered three rotating smoothie options, including berry and banana, orange and banana, and a plain soymilk-and-yogurt blend.
The demand was constant. Students served themselves from pitchers, and I was responsible for keeping fresh pitchers available at all times. I often returned to find them empty with students already waiting for their favorite flavors.
Responsibilities & Skills:
Prepared high-volume smoothies using industrial blenders
Managed continuous production to meet heavy student demand
Monitored inventory and ingredient usage throughout the shift
Processed large quantities daily (multiple boxes of frozen berries, bananas, and oranges)
Maintained cleanliness and food-safety standards
Worked efficiently in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
This role required speed, organization, and the ability to stay upbeat during peak rushes—and it was one of the most enjoyable jobs I held.
